Which Olive Garden Soup Is Best?

There's no wrong answer, but the four soups do very different jobs. Zuppa Toscana is the fan favorite and the one most people try to recreate at home: the sausage gives it a smoky, peppery kick and the cream mellows it out. Chicken & Gnocchi Soup is the comfort pick; it's thick, mild and the most filling. Pasta e Fagioli Soup tastes like a light chili with pasta and is the best choice if cream soups feel heavy. Minestrone Soup is the lightest at 110 calories and the only one that's vegetarian.

Our tip: on your first visit, ask for a small taste of two soups before you commit. Servers can usually bring a sample, and with unlimited refills you can switch to the other soup for your second bowl at most restaurants.

How Unlimited Soup Works

  • Every dine-in entrée comes with your choice of unlimited soup or Famous House Salad, plus unlimited breadsticks.
  • Order Soup, Salad & Breadsticks as a meal for about $16.49 ($13.49 at weekday lunch) and you get unlimited soup and salad and breadsticks together.
  • Refills are for the people at the table and are dine-in only. Leftover soup can't be refilled to take home.
  • Most restaurants let you change soups between refills; just ask your server.

For the full picture on refills, see Never Ending Pasta and the soups, salad and breadsticks menu.

Olive Garden Soup Calories and Nutrition

All the soups are lighter than people expect, between 110 and 230 calories a bowl. The catch is refills and breadsticks: two bowls of Zuppa Toscana and two breadsticks is roughly 720 calories. Sodium is the number to watch; most bowls carry a large share of the daily 2,300 mg reference.

Vegetarian and Gluten-Free Soups

Vegetarian: only Minestrone Soup is meat-free. Zuppa Toscana has sausage (and often bacon), Pasta e Fagioli has beef and Chicken & Gnocchi has chicken.

Gluten: none of the soups are on Olive Garden's gluten-sensitive menu. Gnocchi and the small pastas contain wheat, and the creamy soups are thickened with flour. If you avoid gluten, see the gluten-free menu instead.

Soup To Go and for Groups

Every soup can be ordered To Go by the bowl. For a crowd, the catering menu has a half-gallon of homemade soup for about $20.29, which pours roughly five to six bowls. Reheat it gently on the stove; boiling a cream soup can make it split. See delivery and To Go and catering for ordering.
